Set Intentions Like A Buddhist

Wed, 1/3/24, from 7-9pm @ 2926 NE Flander’s Street in NE Portland

Rather than setting quickly-fading New Year’s intentions, this workshop will draw on Buddhist teachings to allow you to more thoughtfully explore your intentions and what you can actually commit to.  Things you will learn include:

  • Three flavors of Buddhist intention, including bigger picture aspirations, short-term resolutions, and spontaneous impulses.
  • How all these types of intentions flow from our deeply held beliefs, and spill into our actions and lifestyle.
  • The role of environment, social support, discernment, and mindfulness in maintaining our intentions.

The workshop will feature a journaling exercise, lecture, community discussion, and a guided meditation.

Forgive Like a Buddhist

Wed, 1/17/24, from 7-9pm @ 2926 NE Flander’s Street in NE Portland

Forgiveness is the heart’s release of resentment and ill-will.  In this workshop, we will explore the Buddhist perspective on how and why we can engage in this radical release of pain.  We’ll see that true forgiveness usually doesn’t happen in a 2-hour period, but is instead a process that happens over time, and can absolutely include healthy boundaries.

Through the models and practices you will learn, you will intimately understand how you can enter the forgiveness process in a way that will beautify your life, both inwardly and in your relationships.

The workshop will feature a journaling exercise, lecture, community discussion, and a guided meditation.

Meditate Like A Buddhist

Wed, 1/31/24, from 7-9pm @ 2926 NE Flander’s Street in NE Portland

All Buddhist meditation methods fall into one of three basic types: concentration, insight, or heart.  This workshop will intimately teach you how the difference between them is less about what you focus on, like the breath or body sensations, and more about the approach or mindset with which you meditate.  You will learn:

  • The essential pointers of each of these styles
  • How you can turn any situation into an opportunity for that type of meditation
  • How there’s a way to meditate where all three of these styles merge into one — stabilizing awareness in the present moment, inclining towards insight, and infusing a mountain of kindness.

The workshop will feature three guided meditations, short lectures, and community discussion.
