Description:
In this talk, we begin to explore the Brahma vihārās, which represent some of the key “heart” teachings on the Buddhist path: loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity. We’ll take the next month or so to go through them individually, so tonight will be a bit of a broader overview on how they fit into the greater dhamma path.
These teachings are often extremely helpful for Westerners exposed to a form of Buddhism and meditation that primarily focuses on meditative stability, emptiness, presence, non-attachment, etc. In contrast, the heart teachings tend to balance that out and help us greet reality with equal parts love and wisdom.
